Iron Mountain Launches Records Management Program Gap Analysis

New Consulting Service Evaluates Current Records Management Program, Quickly Identifies Risk Areas to Enable Immediate Action and Address Compliance and Litigation Risk

September 29, 2003

Boston, MA - Iron Mountain Incorporated (NYSE:IRM), the leader in outsourced records and information management services, today announced the launch of its Records Management Program Gap Analysis, a new consulting service that gauges the state of a company’s existing records management program. The service quickly identifies risk areas and recommends the necessary program changes to ensure a compliant and legally credible records management program.

With today’s rapidly changing regulatory climate and rising litigation risk, it is imperative that companies place greater emphasis on risk management and corporate controls. A recent records management study conducted by Penn, Schoen & Berland Associates reveals that the majority of companies do not have adequate records management programs. In many instances, companies lack the proper tools and process controls.

“Companies have shown that they are motivated to improve their records management programs and are willing to make the necessary investments, but they don’t know where to start,” said Pete Delle Donne, president of Iron Mountain’s Enterprise Solutions and Services division. “The Gap Analysis engagement was developed to give companies a quick and responsive process to gain the right insight, identify risks, and focus their records management efforts and investments.”

Iron Mountain’s Gap Analysis provides a snapshot of a business’ current records management program, revealing areas of risk exposure and identifying the deficiencies. With this insight, a company can compare how its current program measures up against industry best practices for policy foundation, training, implementation and organizational accountability – and make necessary program changes. The Gap Analysis also provides a prioritized action plan that a company can use to plan the steps needed to address its risks.

Iron Mountain’s Consulting Services provides records and information management services for both paper and electronic records, including e-mail. Engagements are customized to each client’s needs and include: records retention program development and implementation, inventory cost reduction, e-mail and electronic records management program development and implementation, records management gap analyses; benchmarking, and business process re-engineering. Since 1996, Iron Mountain has been advising the world’s leading companies from diverse industries such as banking, insurance, manufacturing, healthcare and pharmaceuticals.
